Riddle me this: what’s ever-growing, super round, sometimes cranky, mostly elated and full of life?
Give up? The answer is....ME!
I couldn’t be more thrilled to let you know that I am 21 weeks pregnant with our first child, which I can honestly say is the most amazing thing — right on par with meeting, falling in love with and marrying our founder, Arron — that has ever happened to me.
Now that we’re on the brink of having a baby, Arron and I have never been more attuned to all the ways in which we can make decisions to optimize our kid’s life and truly set them up for success. And it’s no mystery to us that what we choose to feed him or her (that’s right, we’re not finding out the gender!) is one of the first and most fundamental ways to do this.
Besides the fact that wild salmon is so much a part of our family’s DNA, it also happens to be some of the most nutrient-dense foods you can feed to a child. Of course, our baby won’t be eating solids until he or she is six months old, but the moment that happens you better believe we’re going to come up with every possible way to ensure our little love-nugget becomes a wild fish enthusiast just like the rest of us.
You see, fish such as wild salmon is an unparalleled food for children with properties that directly and indirectly support healthy brain function and development. With the combined effects of its fat content, low levels of contamination, and versatility in the kitchen make it a no-brainer, when it comes to choosing food for children, wild salmon really is the crème de la crème.
That said, I am well aware that picky eaters are a thing, and that I may not get so lucky right off the bat with regard to our petite peanut’s predilections. But I’m not worried, because there are all varieties of ways to get kids to eat their seafood. It’s just a matter of creativity!
There are also species with less robust flavor profiles than salmon, such as wild Alaska pollock, which is mild, versatile and works wonders when it comes to crafting kid-friendly seafood meals — and which we’re also thrilled to report will soon be a new species that we will be offering. So stay tuned for that, and in the meantime, please join me in celebrating the glorious gift of creation and the unpredictable beauty of life.
Live wild!
Monica
