Modern hunter-gatherer techniques include swiping through apps to forage for produce, proteins, and other provisions all from our couch. But Mother Nature can only adapt so far to consumer demand. Even as we become less and less connected to where our food comes from, we can look to the fish to inspire us to stay connected to our last truly wild food source.
At Wild Alaskan Company, we’ve made a conscious choice to participate in a supply-driven food system; one that is regulated by the state constitution of Alaska. When you’re a member of the Wild Alaskan Company, you’re a part of an ecosystem that starts in the rivers and streams of Alaska, and lands on your doorstep with the highest quality, most sustainably and responsibly-sourced seafood available on the planet.
To thrive within this quality, supply-driven food system, Wild Alaskan Company embraces a membership model, rather than an on-demand buying structure. That’s because we know that participating in this ecosystem means consciously building a responsible supply chain; one that is directly related to the supply of seafood in Alaska.
A supply-driven food system is a responsible choice.
In other industries, like snack foods or fast fashion, the market demands the amount of supply that gets generated. But, salmon and other wild-caught seafood are naturally-sourced, finite products. In fact, to call it a product even minimizes the fish itself, the lifeblood of the waters of Alaska. We prefer the term resource. Simply put, we cannot distribute to our members more fish than is sustainable for the ongoing health of the Alaskan fish population.
Many factors affect the harvest year to year and we respond to the supply available taking into account the abundance of various species of fish. This is why you may notice the contents of our curated plans changing from time to time. The sustainable and responsible sourcing of a finite resource is directly connected to the number of members we are serving. Your ongoing commitment to your membership helps us to accurately source and be accountable for the amount of seafood we ship, and ultimately makes you co-stewards of the sea.
Your membership opens the door for us to introduce some of the most delicious and sustainably-caught seafood, that would otherwise not be discoverable or even available to a wider audience. Eating across multiple species — as opposed to only consuming better-known, low-availability fish — ensures our food system stays sustainable at scale, and more directly mirrors the way humans have related to food for millennia, by adapting to what is available.
A supply-driven food system keeps you informed and in control.
The seafood industry at large is full of misinformation, mislabeling and confusion. By keeping our supply chain entirely U.S. based and sourced in Alaska, we have much more control over processing and quality, and we know exactly what goes into your box each and every time.
As your personal fishmongers, we strive to help members eat in concert with nature by curating select boxes of wild-caught species based on the harvest. This curation speaks to our sense of stewardship, to support a food system in which people eat what nature provides.
In your box, depending on your personal selection, you’ll see multiple species of salmon and/or a selection of white fish. We’ll never source unsustainable cuts or species, and we’ll continue to offer new proteins and species as supply allows.
The control we have over our supply chain also allows us to source specials for our members like red king crab, spot prawns, cold smoked sablefish, and even new-to-you species and cuts like lingcod and Pacific halibut cheeks. New and rotating seafood make for important and exciting additions to your diet that provide variety in flavor and nourishment.
A supply-driven food system can improve your health and wellbeing.
Taking our cues from nature isn’t just about staying sustainable. Being part of a membership keeps your personal freezer stocked with health and with variety. You also reap benefits like:

We will always abide by the laws and regulations of Alaska according to the sustained yield principle, which has become the global gold standard for sustainable wild fisheries management. By maintaining your membership, we are able to fill your box with species you know and love, and even introduce you to new ones as supplies change.
Our commitment to processing in the US also benefits you as a consumer to minimize the carbon footprint of delivery, and to keep mislabeling and seafood fraud out of our supply chain.
Additionally, we’ll always listen to your needs as well! When you start your membership, we form a partnership in sustainability.
