When I think of what defines Alaskan quintessence, the word synchronicity lights up in my mind. It's because this is a place where dramatic volatility is the only true constant, where flora, fauna and humans alike are bound to the seasons, to the rhythms of their natural cycles and the harvests they each give and take.
The spirit of this dance is our inspiration and north star at Wild Alaskan Company, right down to one of the first decisions we ever made: to create a membership program with curated boxes featured in our Wild Salmon, Wild White Fish and Wild Combo plans, and determined by the harvest of the Alaskan waters. By leaning on Mother Nature to lead the curation, we’re trusting the fish to guide us as we eat more in concert with its cycles.
Led by nature, your plan can foster a conscious way of eating, responsive to what’s abundant and available in the seas. It’s a way of eating that’s more closely aligned with the variability of one of the very last wild proteins — wild seafood. Whether you’ve got a sensibility for salmon, a fondness for white fish, or unequivocally love it all, know that each curated box features a sustainable selection for you to discover and enjoy.
We sincerely hope that these curated boxes — featuring different cuts and species — can help you to expand your palate and nutritionally diversify your diet. You might even begin to cultivate an Alaskan-inspired resourcefulness as you learn to use what nature has to offer, from harvest to harvest.
Personally, my full-on immersion in all things wild has pushed me to get out of my culinary comfort zone to explore new cooking methods and combinations of ingredients over the years. Our household has its go-to dishes, of course, but I’ve learned to get creative to enjoy full-spectrum flavor journeys with each box we receive. Sometimes our meals are an inspired pastiche of leftovers (think: Chopped) and sometimes they’re more deliberate compositions (think: Iron Chef America), but they all make the best use of the species in my box, paired up with items in my fridge and pantry.
These curated boxes also help us bring members a steady offering of what’s being responsibly harvested from Alaskan fisheries: a diversified supply that’s resilient to fluctuations in nature and in manmade markets. If you want to nerd out on why this model of a supply driven food system works for the planet, you can take a deeper dive on our blog.
Ultimately, your Wild Alaskan membership is just a small expression of your stewardship of the seas, just as our curated boxes are a dog-eared page from a bigger tale. With that in mind, I am writing today to celebrate the fact that as a member of Wild Alaskan Company, your membership helps us with our mission to accelerate humanity’s transition to sustainable food systems by fostering meaningful, interconnected relationships between human beings, wild seafood and the planet. It’s a mission statement that we live by, and we are glad you’ve come along for the ride.
I look forward to writing you letters about seafood in the springtime really soon!
Live Wild,
Monica
