Supply chain and inflation concerns are taking over dinner table conversations and headlines across the world; the impact can be felt in the waters of Alaska, as well.
Since launching the company, we’ve resisted increasing prices for our members through multiple challenges, including: rising labor and supply chain costs, ongoing price inflation within the seafood industry, and limited availability of certain Alaskan species. However, a pandemic that has dragged on for a third year running — in combination with the current international instability — has further compounded the challenges of bringing sustainably-caught, wild seafood to your doorstep. The confluence of these events have required us to raise prices for the first time in the company’s existence: $145 for a 12-pack and $267 for a 24-pack.
On March 15th, new members and those without an active membership will see these new prices reflected on the website. Then, on April 5th, the new pricing will go into effect for active members.
Although we are increasing our prices, we remain committed to our mission: to accelerate humanity’s transition to sustainable food systems by fostering meaningful, interconnected relationships between human beings, wild seafood and the planet.
Here’s how we’re keeping in line with that mission:
While a majority of the seafood consumed in the United States is unsustainably sourced and processed abroad, all of Wild Alaskan’s seafood is sustainable, wild-caught and processed in the United States. We also work closely with all partners to bring the fish from the pristine waters of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest to your doorstep, while minimizing air shipments to reduce our carbon footprint.
At Wild Alaskan Company, we honor salmon as the lifeblood of multiple ecosystems and acknowledge its deep connection to the Kallenberg family. The natural journey salmon take during their lifetimes transfers nutrients from the oceans to the rivers, lakes and streams. But salmon, and all Alaskan seafood, is also a commodity that is continuously subject to frequent price fluctuations inherent in all wild fisheries. And prices are largely determined by how abundant the total catch is of each species from harvest to harvest. Although our price is increasing due to the events described above, we’ll continue to offer pre-set, curated plans to buffer typical wild seafood price fluctuations, while supplying you with a healthy and diverse mix of sustainable seafood every month.
Please know that we do not make these types of decisions at Wild Alaskan Company without careful deliberation, and without exploring every other option that would continue to keep us in line with our mission, while providing an exceptional experience for you. Wild Alaskan Company is our lifeblood. You, the members, are part of the extended Wild Alaskan family. And we will continue to take great pride in bringing you the very best sustainable food source on the planet.
